Dileep’s Ramaleela, despite of negative campaigns gained before of its theatrical release has garnered positive response and box office pull as the movie finally hit the screens on Thursday. On the opening day, the political thriller was screened in 129 theatres in Kerala and will be released in 62 screens in rest of Indian markets on Friday, September 29. It should be noted that the big-budget political thriller’s release had to be put on hold due to the real life reversal in Dileep’s life. Dileep continues to spend time in Aluva sub-jail after his bail pleas were rejected four times by the trial court as well as the Kerala High Court.
A lot of controversies were in social media since the last few days on whether the movie was worth watching as the hero was arrested in real life in connection with the abduction and assault of a South Indian actress by a gang in a moving car in Kochi. Touted to be one of the most expensive films made in Malayalam, ‘Ramaleela’ is directed by debutant Arun Gopi and produced by high-profile producer Tomichan Mulakupadam, the film industry had been anxiously waiting with fingers crossed for the film’s release. Dileep’s ex-wife Manju Warrier refused to support the boycott and clarified that a film was a collective effort and the livelihoods of many are depending on it.
