Vikram Vedha is an upcoming action film written and directed by Pushkar-Gayathri starring R. Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. R.Madhavan appears as the op named Vikram Vijay Sethupathi plays a gangster named Vedha and therefore the title, Vikram Vedha. Now it is clear that the film revolves around the conflicts and enmity between the two main characters. The film has high expectations because of it’s fresh casting and the audience would love to see two brilliant actors like Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi together on the screen. The film’s first look poster and a teaser got released earlier and received positive responses, the OST was also released last week and they too sound fresh. Now we are going to take a look at the recently released trailer and find out what to expect from Vikram Vedha.
The trailer begins with a top angle shot of a housing board and the camera is rotating in the clockwise direction, after a few seconds, the same housing board is shown from the top angle but this time the camera is zooming into it. That area must be an important one for the plot. With the accompaniment of a strong music the trailer opens to the main characters, Vikram and Vedha.
Lets be honest with the fact that the story doesn’t seem new to the audience and Madhavan’s first dialogue from the trailer is asking Vijay Sethupathi “Unna maari aalungalukku ellam ore katha thaane” (Don’t all guys like you have the same story?), is actually true. We see a series of shots that explains the character of Vedha and then the character of Vikram, both are really violent involving a lot of action. We see some of the other characters like the one played by Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, who seems to have an important role. She is also seen beating a guy and bleeding in another shot. Vedha is shown stylish and a little playful whereas Vikram seems to be a no-nonsense cop. The two characters seem to have more than one confrontation scene.
The action and the cinematography are promising. The music is another highlight of the trailer. The lyrics of ‘Karuppu Vellai’ song is more effective in the trailer than the dialogues. Also the trailer cuts are perfectly in sync with the song’s beats. We can clearly understand the the purpose of the supporting cast and what they are going to be in the film, let it be Harish Perady as the don’s trustworthy hand or Achyuth Kumar as Vikram’s superior officer or Shraddha Srinath as Vikram’s wife/girlfriend. Still the the treatment of the film looks captivating and it gives a hope that there will be something in the store that is worth our time and money.
Nothing is new in the field of cinema, every story is said and shown in somewhere or the other in the world. So the predictability of Vikram Vedha is dismissible. If the screenplay is rigid and the incidents are interesting then surely Vikram Vedha can turn out to be a satisfying action film as Tamil Cinema haven’t had a good one for a while now. Also the presence of stars like Vijay Sethupathi and Madhavan increases the excitement. The film have lot of action in it and Dhilip Subbarayan is handling that department, he is undoubtedly the best in the industry for realistic yet cinematic stunt sequences. The rest of the crew are also of high quality. The movie is ready to release on July 7th, the trailer is definitely an acceptable invitation to the theaters. After all who can say no to a film that has two of the industry’s best actors as Vikram and Vedha!
